Bandag Control Program
Challenge
Bandag was developing a next generation 8200 Automatic Buffer for their tire retread equipment group. A new control architecture, application software and human machine interface (HMI) was needed to enable this new tire buffer.
Solution
Trust Automation worked with Bandag to implement a Ziatech STD32 industrial computer system with a 4 axis Delta Tau motion controller (next generation utilized a Motion Engineering motion controller). The controller also contained the I/O needed to operate the safety and high power buffing motors on the 8200 Automatic Buffer. In addition to the hardware selection and design work, a ground up development of a new application software program and HMI was created and implemented utilizing Trust Automation’s unique capabilities for the 8200 Buffer.
Results
Trust Automation created a control program to automatically determine a truck tire’s physical size. This information was used to determine the fastest control path to process the tire. The 8200 Automatic Buffer allows complete dynamic control of the process, allowing updates of all parameters in real time. During this process Trust Automation supported field trials at dealer sites, provided training for Bandag’s field service team, presented at Bandag Dealer trade shows, and trained Bandag’s engineering group on servo based motion controllers and systems.
